TIM ATKINSON | COACH

Tim has had a successful professional playing career in Australia and Japan. Tim now uses his extensive rugby experience as a mentor to numerous players in the current Australian Sevens squad.

Tim played professional rugby for more than ten years and has drawn on that experience to become a successful rugby coach. His vision, strategy and communication on the field were key to his playing success and are fundamental aspects of his coaching style.

Tim represented ACT Brumbies and QLD Reds in Super Rugby, played in Japan for Kyushu Den Ryoku and captained Australia in Rugby 7s including an appearance at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, where he was the leading try scorer for the tournament. Tim won four IRB 7s tournaments with Australia including Wellington, Shanghai, Malaysia and Brisbane.

Tim started his coaching career as an assistant coach to Glen Ella of the Australian 7s team in 2006/2007.

Tim’s involvement in the Northern Territory Mozzie Rugby 7s team in 2016 - 2018 was key to their success and their historic best ever result at the National Championships.
